Following the completion of a pre-feasibility study for the Comprehensive Waste Management and Biomass-to-Energy Project in The Gambia, the landfill and biogas cogeneration project in Bakoteh has reached the next stage in its journey towards the realisation phase.
Under the direction of Dr Yves J.M. Lamour, Country Director of Project Lighthouse Gambia (PLG), the study offers a comprehensive evaluation of the landfill’s potential, energy yield and a sustainable management concept. The PLG team presented the study’s findings to the Gambian Minister of Environment and the Minister of Energy in person at the beginning of 2016. Both ministers expressed their personal support for the project’s realisation.
