Expansion of the WASH programme in Siganar (Casamance)
Following the successful commissioning of our desalination plant in northern Senegal, Project Lighthouse Africa e.V. is further expanding its WASH commitment:
In the Siganar (Casamance) region, we now supply nearly 10,000 people with clean drinking water.
Solar-based infrastructure with a sustainable impact
At the heart of the project is a powerful and fully automated hybrid water pumping system, combined with a 60-kilometre-long pipe network connecting several villages and two islands.
The system enables:
- Permanent, energy-independent drinking water supply
- A significant reduction in water-borne diseases
- Relief for women and children in terms of water procurement
- Strengthening local stability and economic development
The infrastructure was deliberately designed to be robust, low-maintenance and operable in the long term. The use of solar energy reduces operating costs and avoids dependence on fossil fuels.
Water as a factor of stability
Clean drinking water is not only a question of health, but also of social resilience. In a region historically marked by tensions and economic marginalisation, a secure water supply contributes significantly to social stabilisation.
The expansion in Siganar marks another milestone in our integrated WASH approach.
